ADHD assessments follow evidence based clinical guidelines, with structured diagnostic interview, alongside comprehensive steps: initial screening, detailed collateral history and thorough medical workup often including ECG and cardiac clearance.
- Clinical Interview & Developmental History: Detailed psychiatric evaluation tracing symptom onset, developmental milestones, family history, physical health and functional impairment from childhood to present
- Screening Tools: DIVA-5 (structured interview for DSM-5 ADHD symptoms in childhood/adulthood), ASRS, Conners rating scales assess inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity across settings.
- Collateral Information: Essential input from parents, partners, teachers corroborates symptom presentation per clinical guidelines.
- Medical Workup: Baseline blood tests, ECG, cardiac risk assessment prior to pharmacological consideration; rules out thyroid, sleep disorders and other mimics.
- Management Strategies: Individualised plans combining medication (when clinically indicated and appropriate), psychoeducation, CBT, executive function coaching, lifestyle strategies and GP shared care. Regular follow-up appointments are typically required, unless opting for GP shared care if possible.
